Zero-G, Sports Illustrated and Kate Upton Team Up for Photo Shoot
In an unusual pairing, Sports Illustrated magazine and ZERO-G corporation teamed up for the magazines annual Swimsuit issue which this year is marking its 50th anniversary.
According to ZERO-G the photo shoot took place on March 18, 2013, almost a year ago but was kept secret till now. The ZERO-G Boeing-727 performed a series of 17 parabolas and 13 zero gravity and four replicating lunar gravity as model Kate Upton posed in the weightless environment.
“The ZERO-G experience was really exhilarating for everyone involved,” said MJ Day, editor of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. “We have been almost everywhere in the past 50 years with SI Swimsuit, but we have never done anything like this. It was certainly the most out-of-the-box shoot. Once again, Kate surprised us all with how she handled modeling in weightlessness.”
It’s unclear how well Upton adopted to the weightless experience but it is clear that this is an unusual marketing effort.
