The Commercial Spaceflight Federation Congratulates World View for its Successful Test Flight
The Commercial Spaceflight Federation congratulates World View for the successful completion of a scaled test flight of its high-altitude balloon spaceflight system.
The 10 percent scale system was lifted 118,000 feet to the edge of space and then descended to 50,000 feet where the transition to parafoil was successfully executed, validating World View’s precision guided landing system.
World View’s pressurized space capsule will use a high-altitude balloon to lift passengers to a height of 30km for a two-hour panoramic experience before gliding back to Earth. This test performed the full flight profile of the spaceflight system on a reduced scale and captured imagery of the view that will be available to customers.
“We congratulate the World View team on this milestone accomplishment and maiden voyage,” said CSF President Michael Lopez-Alegria, “We are pleased to see the expansion of the commercial space market to include this unique new human flight experience.”
