Subject: Transformation of Agency Information Technology (IT) Services
What is Happening:
The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is integrating and consolidating many IT services throughout the Agency. This new effort is called the IT Infrastructure Integration Program, or I3P. It will affect every employee who uses IT services such as: desktops, laptops, networks, etc. The scope of I3P is broad, entailing consolidation, improved governance, and central management of IT services in the areas of service desk and ordering, Web services and technologies, enterprise business and management applications, integrated communications/network services, and end-user services. Roll-out schedules will vary by each Center. Each Center’s Chief Information Officer will send out more detailed information, but below you’ll find a high-level summary of the new program.
Services Affected:
The Enterprise Service Desk (ESD) at the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) will provide a central service desk, service request center, and self- service Web site. It is the main interface between end users and the I3P service providers. Generally, users will call 1-877-NSSC-123 for service beginning this fall. Some Centers may use a Center help number that will be forwarded to the NSSC.
The End User Services area is supported by the Agency Consolidated End- user Services (ACES) contract. It will provide desktops, laptops, multi-function copiers/printers, smart phones, cell phones, pagers, e-mail, calendaring, and office automation software.
The Communications Services area is supported by the NASA Integrated Communications Services (NICS) and GSA Networx(c) telecommunications contracts. They include the following: mission and corporate wide-area networks, center local-area networks, collaboration tools (video and audio), voice services, and other services for some Centers (for example cable plant, emergency warning and public address systems, radio, and phone systems).
The Web Services area is supported by the Web Enterprises Services and Technologies (WEST) contract. The contract includes: Web site hosting (most notably www.nasa.gov), Web content management, integration, and search services.
The Enterprise Applications Services area is supported by the Enterprise Applications Service Technologies (EAST) contract. This contract manages NASA’s Financial, Human Capital, Logistics, Procurement and Access Credential, and Identity applications services. EAST provides support to NASA’s Enterprise Applications Competency Center (NEACC) in Madison, Ala. Enterprise Application users will continue to request support via the NASA Information Support Center (NISC), Tier-1 Help Desk (1-866-427-4367) and use the Remedy Service Request support solution at: https://arsweb.msfc.nasa.gov/ISRSuser.asp until further notice.
When: The I3P services will be initially available during the following timeline:
Enterprise Applications Services: started February 1, 2011 Communication Services: started June 1, 2011 Enterprise Service Desk: starts October 6, 2011 Web Services: starts October 6, 2011 End User Services: starts November 1, 2011
Centers will transition at staggered times over the next several months. Please visit the I3P website for individual Center transition dates. For more information click on http://insidenasa.nasa.gov/ocio/i3p/index.html.
Who’s Affected:
All NASA Centers and facilities. JPL intends to utilize End-user Services to obtain multifunction device services and Virtual Team Meeting (WebEx) services.
Benefits:
I3P is a significant Agency-wide IT transformation program and is specifically designed to better enable NASA’s missions, improve our IT security, gain productivity efficiencies, and improve our purchasing power as an Agency.
