Having not existed in any meaningful way as recently as late 2014, China’s commercial space sector has certainly come a long way. Ten years ago, almost the entirety of China’s space industry was comprised of massive state-owned enterprises (SOEs). In late 2014, the government published the now-famous “Document 60,” which opened the door to commercial space via several encouraging lines written about private funding entering sectors such as launch vehicles.
