X-Laboratories Adds Another World-Renowned Technology Developer to Its Arsenal

X-Laboratories announced the signing
of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Jet Propulsion Laboratory
(JPL) to evaluate and commercialize selected technologies emerging from JPL.
JPL is an operating division of the California Institute of Technology
(Caltech).
This agreement will combine X-Laboratories “assembly-line”
business model and technology development partners with JPL research in a
variety of disruptive technological fields.

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work so closely with a
facility like JPL.
The business model we have developed fits perfectly to the
rapid commercialization of core technologies born at JPL.”
Gerard Casale,
CEO/Chairman of X-Laboratories.

X-Laboratories, along with Venture partner Arcturus Capital, development
partner HRL Laboratories and research partner Pepperdine Law School’s Center
for Entrepreneurship and Technology Law will provide JPL/Caltech with ongoing
commercial evaluations of the potential of select JPL technologies, and will
bridge the gap between VC and scientific realms for JPL by establishing the
infrastructure required to commercialize these technologies.
As a result of
this agreement X- Laboratories will work with JPL/Caltech to develop viable
businesses from these technologies.
X-Laboratories expects to integrate the
work performed at HRL Laboratories with its future projects at JPL in an
effort to supply the commercial marketplace hungry for core technology
companies with new state-of-the-art applications, software and hardware.

“It has been a pleasure working with JPL and Caltech in cultivating this
unique relationship,” said Casale.
“We look forward to the launch of X-Labs
initial JPL sourced project.”

“JPL has a strong interest in fostering the commercialization of its
technologies.
The X-Laboratories model provides us with an evaluation and
pathway to the marketplace that can demonstrate the value of space-derived
technology to the taxpayer.”
Al Pappano, Manager, Collaborative Technology
Development Office at JPL.

About The Jet Propulsion Laboratory

JPL is NASA’s lead center for robotic exploration of the solar system.
It
is an operating division of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech),
which manages JPL under a prime contract with NASA.
JPL is world-renowned for
its advances in deep-space exploration and technology development.
JPL is
making advances in various technologies with new instruments and software that
among other things will enable U.S. spacecraft to travel further and U.S.
telescopes see farther than ever before.
Some areas of expertise and research
for JPL are robotic development, microdevices including MEMS gyroscopes,
virtual exploration, deep space network communications, in addition to many
others.

About the California Institute of Technology

Located in Pasadena, California, Caltech is a small, coeducational
university dedicated to exceptional instruction and research in engineering
and science.
The student body is composed of about 900 undergraduate and
1,000 graduate students who maintain a high standard of scholarship and
intellectual achievement.
With an outstanding faculty — including several
Nobel Laureates — and such off-campus facilities as the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, Palomar Observatory, and the W. M. Keck Observatory, Caltech is
one of the world’s major research centers.
