Western Celebrates Science and Community Engagement with Special Space-Themed Event September 24, 2016

Science Literacy Week highlights Canada’s outstanding scientists and science communicators from coast-to-coast. The goals are to showcase the excellence and diversity of Canadian science and to show how exciting science is. 

As part of the national festivities, Western University’s Center for Planetary Science and Exploration (CPSX), in collaboration with the Department of Physics & Astronomy, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) and the Planetary Society (London Chapter), is hosting an event on Saturday, September 24 at the Hume Cronyn Memorial Observatory to engage the community of southwestern Ontario with several family-friendly space science activities.

Activities & Display: 

  • Space Science Challenge
  • Planet Walk
  • Star gazing through Cronyn’s 10-inch main telescope as well as several other telescopes
  • Build model rockets
  • Create 3D celestial objects and spacecraft
  • Space books on display 
  • Historical displays and artifacts
  • Arts and Crafts for kids
  • Raffle 

Networking:

  • Meet the planetary scientists and the astronomers form Western University
  • Meet members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and The Planetary Society 

Free parking is available at the Alumni parking lot.
