LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE, El Segundo, Calif. – The U.S. Air Force Space Command’s Space and Missile Systems Center announced Jan. 31, the award of a contract to Harris Corporation as a result of a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) released in July 2012 for the Weather Satellite Follow-on Activities (WSFA) Risk Reduction Technology Project.

The Harris Corporation will perform cost-conscious space-to-ground trades for the Weather Satellite Follow-on Program ground architecture. The study will provide the government with affordable and low risk ground system options for the Weather Satellite Follow-on Program by doing a detailed architectures analysis to generate integrated space and ground solutions. This will yield the architecture responsive to various satellite constellations, including disaggregated solutions.

Multiple contracts are being awarded under this BAA. Harris’ effort focuses on the System and Spacecraft portion of the BAA. The Air Force plans to award multiple contracts for architecture studies, spacecraft accommodation, and alternative acquisition business models.
