Vencore today announced it supported Lockheed Martin and NASA on Orion’s successful Exploration Flight Test-1, which happened this morning.

“This test flight marks a critical step toward NASA’s goal of sending humans beyond Low-Earth orbit,” said Mac Curtis, CEO, Vencore. “Vencore congratulates Lockheed Martin and NASA on this achievement, and is proud to have been a part of the effort to achieve this milestone in the nation’s space program.”

Vencore serves as NASA’s prime contractor for Kennedy Space Center’s (KSC) Engineering Services Contract, and also supports the Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Support Contract and the Information Management and Communication Support Contract at KSC.

Through these contracts, Vencore’s team provided a wide range of support to prepare the Orion spacecraft for launch, and in support of launch operations for the test flight, including: engineering support for design and fabrication of ground systems equipment and capsule recovery operations; electromagnetic compliance testing; support for pyrotechnic testing of the Launch Abort System; imagery support for processing operations and launch and recovery activities; and data and telemetry transmission from the launch complex to NASA and Lockheed Martin facilities at KSC, Johnson Space Center and Littleton, Colorado.

“The Vencore workforce is part of a large, dedicated team that is committed to the continued success of our nation’s space exploration goals,” said Curtis.  “We look forward to continuing our partnership with NASA and other aerospace companies in making those goals a reality.”
