United Space Alliance Names Space Program Veteran Herman Huntsville Site Executive

United Space Alliance (USA) announces the appointment of Robert (Bob) S. Herman as Site Executive for its Huntsville, Alabama, facility.

Herman, a 27-year veteran of Human Space Flight programs, will lead USA- Huntsville’s support of NASA’s Space Shuttle, International Space Station and the Constellation Program work managed by the Marshall Space Flight Center.

“Bob’s unrivaled engineering expertise, his Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) experience and his 21 years of engineering management make him the perfect choice for this important role,” said Mike McCulley, USA Chief Executive Officer.

In addition to his Site Executive role, Herman has also been named Associate Program Manager for the USA Huntsville Constellation Office and Associate Program Manager for the Crew Launch Vehicle Upper Stage Production Project, which is currently under procurement.

Herman’s most recent position was USA’s Deputy Associate Program Director for the SRB Element, supporting the Marshall Space Flight Center Solid Rocket Booster Project Office. He previously served as the Chief Engineer and Shuttle Engineering Director for USA’s Ground Operations at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). As Chief Engineer, Herman was responsible for the technical direction of USA Operations at KSC for twenty-nine Space Shuttle launches. Herman began his Human Space Flight career as a Flight Control Systems Engineer for Rockwell International in November 1979, supporting the first Space Shuttle launch two years later. He transitioned to Lockheed Martin Space Operations in 1982 and was on the system engineering team for the inaugural launch of each Shuttle Orbiter. In 1986, he began his engineering management career as Division Manager for Electrical/Avionics Systems Engineering.

Herman earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Science degree in technical management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
