European student teams are offered the chance to design and build experiments suitable for flight on balloons and sounding rockets to be launched from Esrange Space Center – Europe’s only land based rocket range.

The first experiments will be launched on a balloon, BEXUS 7, in September 2008. The first rocket experiments will be launched in March 2009 on the REXUS 5 and 6 sounding rockets.

Each flight will carry a payload consisting solely of student experiments. Half of the payload is made available to German students by the German Space Agency DLR. The other half of the payload is made available to students from ESA Member States (European Space Agency) and Co-operating States by the Swedish National Space Board through collaboration with ESA.

For a six years period nine single stage sounding rockets within the REXUS programme and up to 12 stratospheric balloons within the BEXUS programme will be launched from Esrange Space Center operated by Swedish Space Corporation.

Applications

The deadline for applications is 7 January 2008. In order to apply, student teams should register online and fill in Form A with the details of their proposal. The opportunity is open to students aged between 18 and 28 at the time of the application deadline.

Calls for Experimental Proposals are found on the ESA web site
