Time Capsule to Mars Initiative is officially Explore Mars project

From the time that Explore Mars was founded, we have promoted STEM education projects.  We have also planned to initiate ambitious and inspiring technical projects that advance the goal of sending humans to Mars.

We are, therefore, thrilled to announce that the Time Capsule to Mars initiative has officially become a project of Explore Mars.  This student-led mission aims to land a spherical digital time capsule on Mars containing millions of uploaded images from people in every country on Earth — representing a time capsule of Humanity at the time we seek to colonize our first off-world planet, Mars. “We are so excited to be joining the Explore Mars family,” says Emily Briere, Mission Director of Time Capsule to Mars.  “For our supporters, this shows yet more commitment from the industry to accelerate our mission to Mars, and gives us access to the extensive resources and extended ‘Mars network’ that Explore Mars has forged in recent years.”

By becoming part of Explore Mars, the Time Capsule to Mars project will benefit from the continuity and respect of an established non-profit organization. At the same time, it will remain a student-run mission that can inspire students to become involved in an historic mission.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome the Time Capsule to Mars team to Explore Mars,” said Executive Director, Chris Carberry. “The time capsule project was conceived at the 2013 Humans to Mars Summit and Explore Mars has been a key advisor on this project.  It was a natural fit for them to join our organization.”

Within the next month, Explore Mars and the Time Capsule to Mars team will hold a formal press conference to announce the impressive partners that this project has assembled, as well as provide some exciting updates on the mission.
