The producers of the SATELLITE Conference and Exhibition announced today that Thomas D. Jones, Ph.D., Astronaut, will be the Keynote Luncheon speaker at the third annual Hosted Payload Summit, presenting ‘Hosted Payloads: A Model for Collaboration and Mission Success’ on October 9, 2013 at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington D.C. Due to scheduling conflicts with ongoing projects, Joseph Rouge will no longer be able to participate at the Hosted Payload Summit.

During his keynote address, Dr. Jones will speak on new opportunities for hosted payload partnerships which include an increase of missions to low-Earth orbit and beyond as well as NASA’s nascent strategy to open up the scientific and commercial potential of Earth-Moon space which is expected to complement efforts already undertaken by the global space-based marketplace.

“Dr. Jones’s expertise and experience in space shuttle missions brings key insights into the development of advanced mission concepts that impact the future of hosted payload partnerships,” said Lindsey Fuller, show director. “We are excited and honored to have him keynote our luncheon from which all attendees will benefit.”

Thomas D. Jones, Ph.D., is a scientist, author, pilot, and former NASA astronaut. He holds a doctorate in planetary sciences, and in more than eleven years with NASA, flew on four space shuttle missions to Earth orbit. He has spent fifty-three days working and living in space. After graduation from the Air Force Academy, Tom piloted B-52D strategic bombers, studied asteroids for NASA, engineered intelligence-gathering systems for the CIA, and as a NASA contractor, developed advanced mission concepts to explore the solar system.

Hundreds of satellite professionals will gather at the Hosted Payload Summit which also features opening remarks from Janet Nickloy, Chairman, Hosted Payload Alliance, an opening keynote from Kevin J. Wolf, U.S. Assistant Secretary for Commerce for Export Administration and five in-depth sessions, concluding with an evening cocktail reception.
