The Allied Defense Group, Inc. (Amex: ADG – News) announces that its SeaSpace subsidiary’s commercial TeraScan® ground systems were used to acquire and process the first images from NOAA-18, the latest polar-orbiting weather satellite operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NOAA operates TeraScan® satellite ground stations in Alaska and near Washington DC, both of which were used to acquire and process data from the satellite’s first orbit after instrument activation. SeaSpace personnel backed up NOAA staff by remotely monitoring both the Alaska and Washington systems from SeaSpace facilities outside of San Diego, CA.

Launch took place on Friday, May 20 at 3:22 AM PDT aboard a Boeing Delta II rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The spacecraft carries a number of instruments that will collect weather and environmental data for operational purposes and for long-term weather forecasts. It also carries radio receivers to track emergency rescue beacons from ships, airplanes and stranded hikers.

Major General (Ret.) John G. Meyer, Jr., Chief Executive Officer and President of The Allied Defense Group said, “Allied is proud to support this critical national asset. NASA estimates that data from the NOAA satellites have helped save thousands of lives.”

Bruce Waddell, President of SeaSpace said, “Our TeraScan® ground systems operate worldwide and collect data from every NOAA satellite. We have consistently supported this program for years.”
