TASC, Inc. Supports Successful Minotaur IV Launch

Mission Deploys Hypersonic Technology Demonstration

TASC, Inc. provided independent mission assurance, launch site and engineering support for the August 11 launch of a Minotaur IV Lite launch vehicle.  The rocket carried DARPA’s Hypersonic Technology Vehicle (HTV-2), which is believed to be the fastest vehicle ever flown from the ground, achieving Mach 20 speeds.

“These launches support some of our most advanced technological and scientific tests, paving the way for future hypersonic investments,” says Pat Talty, senior vice president of Mission Engineering at TASC.

The Minotaur IV “Lite” launch vehicle used on this mission consists of the first three rocket motor stages from decommissioned Peacekeeper intercontinental ballistic missiles. Orbital Sciences Corporation, the launch vehicle contractor, provided the new and upgraded structures, electronics and software used to fly them.  The TASC team resolved risks associated with various aspects of the Minotaur IV, including a design change to the post-separation maneuvers of the launch vehicle.
