Swedish Space Strategy: A Space Strategy for Development and Growth

Today, the Swedish Space Investigation handed over their proposal for a new Swedish Space Strategy to the government. The strategy, as well as the investigation, includes a number of suggestions that are positive and important to SSC.

Space activities should focus on being beneficial for society as a whole, enhancing a stronger and more sustainable society as well promoting economic growth. Esrange Space Center should be further developed, to enhance the ability to be a major center for Space activities of strategic importance to Europe. The investigation also states that the Kiruna region has all the prerequisites necessary to support this, using the range of institutional and commercial space entities located there, cooperating in the Space Kiruna platform.

The investigation points out the opportunities to establish launch capability for small satellites from Esrange. A governmental coordinator should be appointed to negotiate with relevant national and international partners regarding the ability to realize this gap-filling capability.
