Statement of Chairman Robert S. Walker Regarding the Anniversary of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks
WASHINGTON- The Honorable Robert S. Walker, Chairman of the Commission on
the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry, issued the following
statement today on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on
our nation:
“A year later, as we reflect on the impact of the September 11 terrorist
attacks on our nation, the Commission joins the Aerospace Industries
Association (AIA) in a moment of silence to honor the memories of those
lives that were lost. The Commission also encourages every American to
take a moment to remember the courage of the heroes who saved lives that
day, and the continued commitment of those who have intensified their
efforts to make our homeland and airways safe.”
Walker continued, “Now more than ever, the U.S. aerospace industry plays a
vital role in our safety and freedom. The Commission’s upcoming final
report will address what our nation and the industry must do to face the new
challenges of the 21st Century – challenges to our safety, our economy and
our spirit.”
The Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry is a
congressionally mandated commission, as established in Section 1092 of the
Floyd D. Spence National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001,
Public Law 106-398. The Commission was formed to study the future of the
United States aerospace industry in the global economy, particularly in
relationship to United States national security; and to assess the future
importance of the domestic aerospace industry for the economic and national
security of the United States. The Commission will hold its next public
meeting on September 17, 2002 at 3pm in the Department of Commerce
Auditorium. The Commission will release its final report in November 2002.
