Spaceport Summit Convenes to Lay Foundation for an International Spaceport Network

Houston – Executives representing 15 U.S. and international commercial spaceports will meet at the inaugural Commercial Spaceport Summit in Houston on Nov. 17 to lay the foundation for an international network of spaceports.

The Summit will be held concurrently with SpaceCom (Space Commerce Conference and Exposition), which runs Nov. 17-19 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston and currently has more than 700 registered attendees.

“A meeting of this nature is unprecedented,” said James Causey, executive director of SpaceCom and organizer of the Summit. “The international spaceport network will stimulate a whole market sector that will have profound impact on the global economy in the future.”

Summit participants will identify common challenges and brainstorm near-term initiatives, activities and actions to lay the foundation for commerce to flourish across the international network of spaceports.

The following spaceport executives will participate in the Summit:
U.S.-based Spaceports:
· Kodiak Launch Complex, Alaska
· California Spaceport (at Vandenberg), California
· Front Range Spaceport, Colorado
· Cecil Spaceport, Florida
· Kennedy Space Center, Florida
· Spaceport America, New Mexico
· Burns Flat Oklahoma Spaceport, Oklahoma
· SPACEINNOVA, Puerto Rico
· Boca Chica Spaceport, Texas
· Houston Spaceport, Texas
· Midland International Air & Spaceport, Texas
· Manassas Regional Spaceport, Virginia
· Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport, Virginia

International Spaceports:
· JAXA Space, Japan
· Prestwick Spaceport, United Kingdom

Also participating in the Summit will be George Nield, associate administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration Office of Commercial Space Transportation, and Mario Diaz, director of aviation at the Houston Airport System.
