Space Shuttle STS-118 Crew Members to Meet Students and Center Employees

CLEVELAND — NASA’s first educator astronaut Barbara Morgan and North Ridgeville High School graduate and space shuttle pilot Marine Col. Charlie Hobaugh will meet with hundreds of area students and Glenn employees to give a first-hand account of their flight on Thursday, October 18.

Hobaugh and Morgan were members of the seven-person crew that returned to Earth aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour on August 21. During their 13-day mission, designated STS-118, space station construction continued with delivery of a starboard truss segment and included multiple spacewalks.

During their presentations to students and employees, they will talk about their roles, present video of their flight and take questions from the audience.

Media are invited to cover the day’s activities. The schedule of events includes:

9:15 – 10:15 a.m. – Hobaugh presentation at North Ridgeville High School

11 a.m. – Noon – Morgan presentation to middle school students at Glenn

1 – 2 p.m. – Hobaugh and Morgan presentation to Glenn employees

The 11 a.m. presentation will include students from Luiz Munoz Marin Middle School (Cleveland), Alpha School of Excellence (Youngstown), Independence Middle School (Independence), St. Mark’s Middle School (Brunswick) and Warrensville Heights Middle School (Warrensville Heights). It will be webcast live on NASA’s Website at: mms://sargasso-3.arc.nasa.gov/dln.

In addition, students at NASA Explorer Schools from Forest Lake Elementary School (Columbia, S.C.) and Village Academy High School (Pomona, Calif.) will participate in the presentation through the NASA Digital Learning Network, an interactive videoconference system.
