Space Shuttle STS-114 Crew to Visit NASA’s Marshall Center Nov. 9

What: Commander Eileen Collins and other crew members of the historic space shuttle Discovery’s STS-114 mission will visit NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., Wednesday, Nov. 9. The mission, which flew from July 26 to Aug. 9, 2005, was a Return to Flight test mission that included a number of historic firsts. The seven-member crew’s 14 days in space included breathtaking in-orbit maneuvers, tests of new equipment and procedures for flight safety and a first-of-its-kind orbiter tile repair technique. The STS-114 mission also delivered supplies to the International Space Station.

When: Wednesday, Nov. 9

  • 10 a.m. – Crew members will provide highlights of their mission in Morris Auditorium
  • 11:20 – 11:40 a.m. — Crew members will be available for news media interviews in Bldg. 4200, Press Room 115

Where: Marshall Center’s Morris Auditorium, Building 4200

To attend: News media are invited to attend the 10 a.m. presentation. Media interested in covering the event should contact the Marshall Public & Employee Communications Office at (256) 544-0034. Media must report to Gate 9 at the Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. Vehicles are subject to security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Bldg. 4200 on the southwest side.
