Space Shuttle Postage Stamp Unveiling at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

KSCVC Introduces New Space Shuttle Stamp as Part of the U.S. Postal Service’s 1980s ‘Celebrate The Century’ Stamp Collection

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla., Jan. 10 Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will host the First Day of Issue Ceremony for the U.S.
Postal Service’s 1980s stamp collection on Wednesday, January 12, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Visitor Complex’s new Universe Theater. Kennedy Space Center
Director, Roy D. Bridges Jr., will conduct a welcome and opening remark. Honored attendees will include Astronaut Rick Linnehan, a veteran of two shuttle
missions, STS-78 and STS-90, and U.S. Representative Dave Weldon.

As part of the United States Postal Service’s “Celebrate the Century” program, this sheet of 15 stamps will highlight significant events representative of the
1980s as voted by the American people. Some of the events and icons of the 1980s which warranted this commemoration include the “Fall of the Berlin
Wall,” “Video Games,” “Cabbage Patch Kids,” “Hip Hop Culture,” “Compact Discs, “Cable TV” and the “Vietnam Veterans Memorial.” The “Space
Shuttle Program” stamp, however, was marked as the key stamp and thus represents the 1980s concept that received the most votes by the American people to commemorate the 20th century.

Guests to the Visitor Complex and stamp collectors are invited to this patriotic ceremony, which will consist of a presentation of colors by the Patrick Air
Force Base Honor Guard, a live performance of the National Anthem, remarks by honored attendees and the official unveiling of the 1980s stamp collection.
Stamp cancellation stations will also be located at KSCVC throughout the day for visitors to enjoy.
