Space Foundation Names UTEP President to Board of Directors

Dr.
Diana Natalicio, president of the University of
Texas at El Paso (UTEP), is the latest member to
be named to the Space Foundation’s Board of
Directors, Foundation officials announced today.
Dr. Natalicio will serve a three-year term on
the board, effective immediately.

Dr. Natalicio was appointed UTEP President in
1988. Previously, she was UTEP Vice President
for Academic Affairs, Dean of Liberal Arts, and
Chair of the Modern Languages Department.

Dr. Natalicio earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics and
a Master’s degree in Portuguese from the
University of Texas at Austin; and a Bachelor of
Science degree in Spanish, graduating Summa cum
Laude from St. Louis University.

“We enthusiastically welcome Dr. Natalicio to
the Space Foundation Board as we further pursue
our dual mission of space awareness and space
education,” commented Jaime Oaxaca, chairman of
the board. “We are honored to have Dr.
Natalicio join the Foundation team along with
recently elected board members Dr. Guy Bluford
of Federal Data Corporation (FDC) and the NASA
Glenn Research Center and Lou Dobbs of
SPACE.com.”

The Colorado Springs-based Space Foundation
hosts the acclaimed National Space Symposium
each April in Colorado Springs; and the
International Space Symposium in the fall, which
will rotate between Washington, DC; Europe and
Asia. The Foundation also conducts a wide range
of media, legislative outreach and space
awareness activities. Education programs for K-
12 educators include Space in the Classroom, a
national education conference at the United
States Air Force Academy; Teaching With Space In-
services; Space Discovery Graduate Courses and
on-line distance learning programs.
