In March, the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan’s (ECCT) Technology Committee is holding a lunch meeting to discuss opportunities for Taiwan/Europe cooperation in (autonomous) satellite navigation, as well as future opportunities for space exploration in Taiwan. The event will feature speaker Jordan Vannitsen, Space Systems Engineer from ESA, and Nathan Kaiser, Asia Hub Representative of Space Angels Network.

“The past two decades have seen Taiwan’s space industry developing with increasing sophistication, and with a clear ultimate goal for commercialization, for the benefit of all stakeholders. This event shows this increasing outreach, as a next small goal post on the further road to travel”, said Kaiser about the event.

On December 2014, an agreement in autonomous satellite navigation research (especially for nanosatellites) was signed between National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and Paris Observatory/ESEP (the most important network of space laboratories in Europe). Satellite navigation is an important theme currently between Taiwan and Europe in the GNSS Asia program www.gnss.asia/taiwan

The National Space Organization of Taiwan has recently developed the first space-grade GPS receiver in Taiwan. Some techniques of autonomous navigation can be used not only for satellites but also for other applications such as drones and cars. The “space to ground” aspect (applying space technology for other businesses on the ground) is important in Taiwan.
