The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today announced that Therese M. Jones has been appointed as SIA’s new Senior Director of Policy with immediate effect. Ms. Jones will be responsible for supporting SIA’s work on government services, regulatory, legislative, defense, export-control and trade issues of critical importance to the commercial satellite industry and the Association’s members.

Since 2013, Ms. Jones served as a policy research analyst with the RAND Corporation. She focused on a wide range of space policy topics including communications, assessing SATCOM commercial acquisition strategies for the DoD and U.S Air Force and reviewing ITU and FCC regulatory filings and policies for newly proposed satellite constellations. She also focused on several other space policy topics including the various capabilities of earth observation and imaging constellations plus cyber security and the economic costs of global cyber incidents.

Ms. Jones is a Ph.D. candidate at the Pardee RAND Graduate School in Santa Monica, CA and she holds a master’s degree in astrophysics from the University of California at Berkeley, and bachelor’s degrees in astronomy and astrophysics, physics, international studies, and German from The Pennsylvania State University.

“SIA is very pleased welcome Therese Jones as the Association’s new Senior Director of Policy,” said Tom Stroup, President of the Satellite Industry Association. “Her wide ranging background as a researcher includes analysis of the interaction between the DoD and the commercial satellite industry, domestic and global satellite regulatory matters, satellite communications, earth observation, cybersecurity, navigation and other topics of importance to our membership. We are delighted she will continue her space policy career with SIA.”
