Sensis Modeling and Simulation Expertise to Help Shape NextGen Concepts

Sensis Corporation announced that its Seagull Technology Center has won a NASA Research Announcement (NRA) project. The project will leverage Sensis’ extensive airspace modeling and simulation development capabilities to directly address current aviation issues.

“Before changes are implemented in the NAS, concepts must be tested under the most realistic scenarios possible,” said Marc Viggiano, Sensis Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. “Sensis will be providing the tools needed to assess these NextGen concepts and provide data to help guide the decision regarding implementation.”

The project, “Linking Airspace Modeling and Simulation Tools of Variable Fidelity and System Scope,” integrates previously created, specialized airspace and air traffic control (ATC) models and simulations into a system-wide simulation. The system will be employed to analyze potential future technology, infrastructure and procedural changes to increase safety, capacity and efficiency.

In recent years, increasingly complex and detailed models and simulations have been developed to analyze various aspects of the ATC system. These models are valuable resources that can be leveraged in a system-wide environment. This research will help to accurately model how detailed changes affect the National Airspace System (NAS) when developing system-wide solutions to capacity and safety concerns.

Sensis Seagull Technology Center is a leader in modeling and simulation services that enable users to effectively assess the potential impact of future airspace and airport improvements. Providing fast-time and real-time simulations, Sensis modeling and simulation services can generate current and future air traffic demand scenarios; provide NAS-wide or regional simulations to evaluate current and future air traffic management concepts; and analyze and visualize simulation results.
