Senate Appropriations Subcommittee Reports FY 2006 CJS Spending Bill (Science Excerpt)

WASHINGTON – The Senate Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee today approved the fiscal year 2006 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations (CJS) bill.  The spending bill funds the Departments of Commerce and Justice, as well as the Small Business Administration, Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission, NASA, National Science Foundation, U.S. Trade Representative, and the SEC.

Overall

The recommendation for the FY06 CJS bill is $48.9 billion.  The discretionary spending level is $48.6 billion.  This is $884.1 million above the FY05 funding level and $1.7 billion above the budget request, excluding the Strengthening America’s Communities Initiative.

Science: $27.3 billion

• $844.5 million for the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST): $145.3 million above the FY05 level and $312.5 million above the request.
• $106.0 million for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).      
• $140.0 million for the Advanced Technology Program (ATP).
• $4.5 billion for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): $550.8 million above the FY05 level and $894.8 million above the request.
• $16.4 billion for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA): $200.0 million above the FY05 level and $60.0 million below the request.
• $5.5 billion for National Science Foundation: $58.1 million above the FY05 level.
