Science Committee to Hold Hearing on Federal Climate Adaptation and Resilience on March 8th
On Tuesday, March 8 at 10:00 AM EDT, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology will be hosting a full committee hearing titled, “Federal Climate Adaptation and Resilience for the 21st Century.”
The purpose of the hearing is to evaluate the Federal Government’s vulnerability to climate change, as well as the status of ongoing efforts to promote greater climate adaptation and resilience throughout Federal agency programs, operations, and facilities.
“Democrats and Republicans, on this Committee and throughout the Congress, hold different views on many aspects of climate policy, and those debates will continue,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “But within a topic that all too often divides us, this is one area where we share a common goal. So many vital Federal programs – important to all of us and backed by longstanding bipartisan support – are now vulnerable to climate change. We must support efforts to bolster Federal resilience in order to ensure that these programs continue to deliver needed results for our constituents and the country as a whole.”
The witnesses include Dr. Richard Spinrad, Administrator, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; Ms. Ingrid Kolb, Director, Office of Management, and Chief Sustainability Officer, Department of Energy; Dr. Joel Carney, Assistant Administrator, Office of Strategic Infrastructure, National Aeronautics and Space Administration; Mr. Alfredo Gomez, Director, Natural Resources and Environment, Government Accountability Office.
This hearing will be conducted remotely via Zoom video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.
