Rockwell Scientific Delivers Long Wave Infrared Sensor Chip Assemblies for New U.S. Satellite Surveillance System

Scientific Company LLC (RSC) has delivered two very long wave infrared
(VLWIR) sensor chip assemblies to Raytheon Company for use on the U.S.
Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Low program. The two sensor chip
assemblies exceeded objective performance requirements.
The assemblies, which detect light in the infrared portion of the
electromagnetic spectrum, will be the “eyes” for a fleet of low earth
orbiting satellites that will detect, track, and identify hostile
missiles through all phases of their flight.
Raytheon is competing to provide the sensor payloads for the first
two SBIRS Low satellites that are scheduled for launch in fiscal years
2006 and 2007.

capabilities to perform on the upcoming development phase of the SBIRS
