As another major step towards the augural race schedule beginning in 2008, the Rocket Racing League(TM) (RRL) has assembled its first of two League-owned and operated race teams. The first team, “Thunderhawk Racing,” will fly the colors of the RRL, and will be piloted by Nick Mowery, a seasoned pilot from Scottsdale Arizona.

As stated by Granger Whitelaw, President and CEO of the Rocket Racing League, “Our emphasis at this time is readying the Mark-1 X-Racers(TM) for our first year race schedule, yet we continue to take advantage of great opportunities. Previously we announced the naming of our first team vehicle, ‘Thunderhawk,’ and now the naming of the Team’s pilot Nick Mowery. Nick is a very talented pilot and represents one of those great opportunities you don’t want to pass up.”

Nick Mowery, a graduate of Emery Riddle exemplifies a lifelong dedication to precision flying. Having graduated early from high school Nick aggressively pursued his passion in aircraft and quickly took on the role of teaching others to fly as a certified flight instructor. Since then Nick has migrated from single engine to twin to jet. “After having flown the piston powered rocket trainer over 1,000 nautical miles up the east coast I have high confidence in the modified Velocity airframe as a safe, reliable high performance platform that will form backbone of the Mark-1 X-Racer,” said Nick Mowery. Velocity, Inc., the League’s exclusive airframe manufacturer, has and continues to support the RRL on numerous levels including its recent decision to sponsor Nick Mowery as the pilot for Thunderhawk. Velocity represents the first company sponsor within the RRL to sponsor a team pilot.

“Velocity could not be more excited about being a sponsor of RRL and specifically Nick Mowery who we are confident will do a great job representing the Velocity brand through the racing circuit,” commented Scott Baker, President of Velocity, Inc.

The Rocket Racing League has and will continue to sign owner operated race teams and intends to have at least two company owned and operated teams by 2008. Thunderhawk Racing is the first of two teams that the RRL will assemble and manage.
