WASHINGTON – Congressman Ken Calvert announced that the House Science Committee this week favorably reported H.R. 426, the Remote Sensing Applications Act of 2005.

“This bill promotes cooperation between the government and industry by encouraging the government to make use of commercial data sets from the remote sensing industry,” said Calvert, who serves as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics where the bill originated.

H.R. 426 would establish a program within NASA to competitively award grants for pilot projects that use government and commercial remote sensing capabilities and other sources of geospatial information to address State, local and regional agency needs.  It would authorize $15 million per year from 2006 through 2010 for the program.
