Washington, D.C. – The House of Representatives’ Steering Committee last night appointed Rep. Dave Weldon, M.D. (R-FL)to the prestigious U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee. There will be three members from Florida on the committee.

“I’m am thrilled with the selection and about joining the Appropriations Committee. This is a great honor. I look forward to bringing my experience and energy to this important committee,” said Rep. Dave Weldon. ” This committee assignment will better enable me to not only help my constituents of District 15, but also the whole state of Florida.”

Appropriations Committee Chairman Bill Young personally welcomed Rep. Dave Weldon, M.D. (R-FL) to the Appropriations Committee saying, “On behalf of the committee I am very pleased to be welcoming Dave to our committee. This will be an important year and I know Dave will be integral in the process. I am also very pleased that the House has expanded Florida’s representation on the committee from two Republican seats to three.”

Florida increased its Republican delegation from 15 members to 18 members after reapportionment, which makes Florida second only to California in size. The Florida delegation asked the House to review its committee representation and asked that it be increased from two seats to three on Appropriations to better reflect its growth and size.

Dave Weldon was the first medical doctor to be elected from the State of Florida and is the first Republican physician and only the second physician ever to serve on the Appropriations Committee.
Rep. Weldon is also the first representative from the East-Central Congressional district of Florida to be appointed to the prestigious Appropriations Committee.
