To Serve on Science, Space and Technology, and Judiciary Committees

Washington, D.C. – Representative Sandy Adams (FL-24) announced today that her colleagues have chosen her to serve on two Committees in the 112th Congress – Science, Space and Technology, and Judiciary. Adams will be serving on the Judiciary Subcommittees on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security and Intellectual Property, Competition and the Internet. Additionally, Adams will be serving on the Science, Space and Technology Subcommittees on Space and Aeronautics and Investigations and Oversight.

“Serving on these two Committees will give me the platform to be an effective advocate for Central Florida families. My background as a law enforcement professional gives me unique insight into the issues before the Judiciary Committee. Throughout my career, justice has been at the forefront of everything I have done. While on the Committee, I will continue to push for justice within our federal courts, administrative agencies and federal law entities.

“After spending years working and meeting with Space Coast business leaders and NASA officials, I am ready to hit the ground running as a leader on space issues on the Science, Space and Technology Committee. As a past member of the Space Caucus in the Florida House of Representatives, I look forward to continuing my work as an advocate for NASA and emphasizing the importance of space exploration to the rest of my colleagues on the Committee and within the Republican caucus. “I plan to work with my new colleagues on these Committees to find ways to help create private sector jobs and grow the economy, while continuing my record of service to the communities I represent. I thank Chairmen Ralph Hall and Lamar Smith for giving me the opportunity to serve my constituents on their panels and look forward to working with them in the coming Congress.”

Science, Space and Technology is the primary Committee in Congress that deals with NASA and space related issues. Home of the Kennedy Space Center, Florida’s 24th District is one of the main NASA facilities in the country, and an economic driver for the region that helps create thousands of high paying jobs. Central Florida is also home to many modeling and simulation companies that create jobs for companies that provide high-tech tools to the United States military for training purposes. Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) will serve as the Chairman of the Committee in the 112th Congress.

The House Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over federal criminal laws, Constitutional issues, immigration law, and intellectual property rights, among others. Rep. Adams is a seventeen-year veteran of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, working as a Deputy Sheriff. A graduate of Columbia College with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Adams went on to serve in the Florida House of Representatives, where she chaired the Criminal Justice Appropriations Committee, and was a member of the National Homeland Security Consortium. Rep. Lamar Smith (TX-21) will serve as the Chairman of the Committee in the 112th Congress.
