Planetary scientists from around the world gather in Victoria, British Columbia, to discuss the current understanding of how planets and planetary sys

Media are invited to the Victoria Convention Centre to attend the New Horizons in Planetary Systems 2019 meeting.

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre, in partnership with the US National Radio Astronomy Observatory and the University of Victoria’s Astronomy Research Centre, will be hosting a group of the world’s top planetary scientists as they gather to discuss their current understanding of how planets and planetary systems form. Understanding these processes will be a key guide in ongoing searches for life elsewhere in the galaxy.

The NRC Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre is the home of astronomers working directly with Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) to address the key questions of planet formation as well as the home of Canada’s contributions to NASA’s New Horizons Kuiper Extended Mission. 

As part of this meeting, Dr. Kelsi Singer, Deputy Project Scientist from the New Horizons mission, will give a free public lecture on the current results from the space mission. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. on May 15th in the Victoria Conference Centre main auditorium. Seating will be first come first serve; no ticket is required.
