NASA Astronaut Robert “Shane” Kimbrough will be the featured speaker at two Florida schools March 28-29.

Kimbrough’s presentations will focus on the future of space exploration as well as his training experience as a new astronaut. Kimbrough also will talk about the important roles math and science played in helping him to realize his dream of becoming an astronaut.

The March 28 visit at The Bolles School will start at 8:30 a.m. with two presentations and classroom visits thereafter. The Bolles School is at 200 ATP Tour Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach.

On March 29, Kimbrough will give two presentations at The Challenger K8 School of Science and Mathematics. The first presentation will start at 9:30 a.m. with a second presentation at 10:30 a.m. Each presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The school is at 13400 Elgin Blvd., Spring Hill.

Kimbrough joined the NASA team at the Johnson Space Center in Houston in September of 2000. Selected by NASA in 2004 to be a member of the Astronaut Candidate Class, Kimbrough completed Astronaut Candidate Training that included scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological training, T-38 flight training, and water and wilderness survival training. Kimbrough will work for various technical assignments within the Astronaut Office while awaiting a future flight assignment as a mission specialist.
