National Research Council’s Annual Space Science Week – March 3-5

The standing committees of the National Research Council’s Space Studies Board and Board on Physics and Astronomy will convene to discuss issues and advances in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics, earth sciences and applications from space, astrobiology and planetary science, and solar and space physics.

A plenary session on March 3 will focus on international programs and planning in space science, with a keynote presentation on NASA Science Mission Directorate activities from Associate Administrator John Grunsfeld.

On the evening of March 4, Sara Seager, professor of planetary science and physics at MIT and a 2013 MacArthur Fellow, will give Space Science Week’s inaugural public lecture on exoplanets and the search for life beyond Earth.

The plenary session will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. EST Monday, March 3.  The public lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. EST Tuesday, March 4.  Both events will take place in the auditorium of the National Academy of Sciences building, 2101 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.  Advance registration is strongly encouraged.
