NASA/JSC SPECIAL EVENT FEATURES HUBBLE MISSION ASTRONAUTS

The general public is invited to share in the excitement of the recently
completed third servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope next
Tuesday, February 1, 2000 when the seven-member STS-103 crew receive
their Space Flight Medals and discuss their mission activities during a
ceremony at Space Center Houston in Clear Lake. The event, sponsored by
NASA’s Johnson Space Center, will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. in Space
Center Houston’s IMAX Theater with the astronauts and other space
workers receiving awards from JSC Director George Abbey. The Discovery
crew will narrate a slide show presentation and video about the Hubble
servicing mission and take questions from the audience.

The STS-103 crew — Commander Curt Brown, Pilot Scott Kelly along with
Mission Specialists Michael Foale, Steve Smith, John Grunsfeld, Claude
Nicollier and Jean-Francois Clervoy — left in orbit an operational
Hubble Space Telescope outfitted with new equipment including six
gyroscopes, an onboard computer, a solid state recorder and data
transmitter, and a fine guidance sensor. The mission featured three
extensive space walks to install the new equipment.

Due to limited seating and first-come, first-served admission, visitors
should arrive at Space Center Houston beginning at 6:00 p.m. Those
attending this event should call the NASA Information line at
281-483-8600 to confirm that the event’s scheduled time has not been
changed due to STS-99 mission activities.
