NASA To Discuss First Days Of Expedition One

Following the successful launch and arrival of the Expedition One crew on the International Space Station, Lead Flight Director Jeff Hanley will conduct the first scheduled status briefing of the vanguard mission at 4:30 p.m. EST, Friday, Nov. 3, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
 
The briefing will be carried live on NASA Television with question and answer capability from participating NASA centers.
 
The Expedition One crew, comprised of Commander Bill Shepherd, Soyuz Commander Yuri Gidzenko and Flight Engineer Sergei Krikalev, launched Oct. 31 on a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, and successfully docked with the station earlier today at 4:24 a.m. EST.
 
Shepherd, Gidzenko and Krikalev will spend nearly four months aboard the station, activating critical systems, conducting the first scientific experiments on the research facility and welcoming three visiting shuttle crews. They will return to Earth with the STS-102 astronauts next February on the same mission that will bring their replacements to the orbiting outpost for the second Expedition flight.
 
Mission status briefings with space station flight directors also are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST on Nov. 9 and Nov. 16. Subsequent status briefings will be scheduled throughout the course of the Expedition One crew’s stay on board the station.
 
NASA TV is available on GE-2, Transponder 9C at 85 degrees West longitude, vertical polarization, with a frequency of 3880 MHz, and audio of 6.8 MHz.
