The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) to provide a range of voice and data services for connecting the agency’s centers and facilities across the country including the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, the Johnson Space Center in Texas and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.

With an expected value of approximately $18 million, the award was made to Qwest Government Services in Arlington, Va., under its Networx Universal contract, which is part of the U.S. General Services Administration’s Networx program, the largest government communications program in the world. The term of the contract award is 9 years.

“Qwest is proud of its long-standing partnership with NASA,” said Diana Gowen, senior vice president and general manager of Qwest Government Services. “For many years we have provided communications services that support NASA’s missions, and we are looking forward to continuing our work for them under the Networx contract.”

This is the latest major award Qwest has received under Networx, which provides comprehensive communications and networking services and technical solutions to all federal agencies. Recently, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) selected Qwest to deliver voice and data services to connect the VA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., and nearly 1,300 hospitals, regional offices and other facilities across the nation.
