NASA Scientist to Discuss “The Moody Sun” at Library of Congress Lecture

The public is invited to a free talk called “The Moody Sun” with Dr. Holly Gilbert in the Pickford Theater, third floor, Madison Building, Library of Congress,Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, August 19 at 11:30 a.m. EDT.

Dr. Gilbert will speak about the ever-changing sun, focusing on solar storms and how these dynamic phenomena interact with the Earth. She will describe how space weather is generated on the sun and how it impacts us.

“We are in constant awe of our closest star, the most dynamic and moody object in the solar system, and unprecedented data from recent missions like SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) and IRIS (NASA’s Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph) are allowing solar scientists to address some of the mysteries that have plagued them for decades,” said Gilbert, of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
