NASA Administrator Charles Bolden will join Small Business Administrator (SBA) Maria Contreras-Sweet and U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, Friday, Aug. 1 at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, to announce the results of the 2013 Small Business Federal Procurement Scorecard.

Media interested in attending should contact Miguel Ayala at 202-205-6420 ormiguel.ayala@sba.gov no later than 10 a.m. Friday. Media must report to Goddard’s Visitor Center, located off ICESat Road in Greenbelt. Once on ICESat Road, turn left into the Visitor Center prior to the security checkpoint.

The annual scorecard is an assessment tool that measures how well federal agencies are progressing toward their goals for small business and socio-economic prime contracting and subcontracting. Goals are established for each prime and subcontracting component, including small businesses, small businesses owned by women, small disadvantaged businesses, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, and small businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones).

Each federal agency has a different small business contracting goal, on which their scorecard results are based. Agencies negotiate these targets biannually in consultation with SBA. SBA ensures that the sum total of all of the goals exceeds the 23 percent target established by law.
