NASA Langley Achievements, Budget to be Rolled Out Feb. 2

Members of the news media are invited to a “State of NASA” news and social media event at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, on Monday, Feb. 2.

Media should contact Michael Finneran at 757-864-6110 or<> by 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30, to attend the NASA Langley event.

As part of an agency-wide NASA Social, Langley will provide a tour for media from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The tour will include remarks from NASA Administrator Charles Bolden at 1:30 p.m., followed by an address to employees by Langley Director Steve Jurczyk.

Bolden will address the agency’s scientific and technological achievements and the work ahead via NASA Television from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Jurczyk will deliver a similar presentation from a NASA Langley perspective.

Langley tour stops are:

A robotic arm being developed by Langley as part of NASA’s Asteroid Redirect Mission;
The Air Traffic Operations Lab, which tests technologies to improve air traffic management and prepare for a predicted growth in air travel;
Research aircraft and uncrewed aerial vehicles in Langley’s hangar that are used for airborne science campaigns and testing new aeronautical technology;
The Orion Ground Test Article, a full-scale crew-capsule mockup that will be drop tested at Langley; and
A robot called ISAAC that will develop strong, lightweight composite structures and materials for aerospace vehicles.

In addition, at 4 p.m., agency Chief Financial Officer David Radzanowski will brief media on NASA’s 2016 budget proposal. To participate, media must contact Karen Northon in the NASA Headquarters newsroom at 202-358-1540 or no later than 3 p.m. Jan. 29.
