The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center announces its 2001 Oral
History Project Summer Intern Program. Established by Center Director in 1996,
the Johnson Space Center (JSC) Oral History Project’s primary goal is to
research and interview individuals who enabled the exciting and challenging
space programs of yesterday and today. This program provides temporary
summer work only and is limited to undergraduate and graduate students.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB: As a Oral History Program Summer Intern, you
will have
the unique opportunity to participate in documenting the history
of the
U.S. human space exploration. You will be responsible for
researching
biographical information on key contributors to NASA’s Mercury,
Gemini,
Apollo, Skylab, and Space Shuttle programs. This research
involves
accessing published and unpublished (primary and secondary)
materials
including written histories, interviews, technical documents, and
Internet
sources. Using this research, you will then compile
professionally
structured biographical profiles. These profiles include
relevant
technical and historical information regarding the subject’s
career with
NASA and are used to help prepare our staff of professional
interviewers in
conducting each interview. You will gain significant experience
in
research, writing and being part of the operations of the Johnson
Space
Center and knowledge of this country’s space flight history.
Additionally,
throughout the summer period, you will find opportunities to
experience
current space program activities, press conferences, and
interaction with
other JSC scientific and technical interns.

BASIS OF SELECTION: Qualified applicants will be selected for
the program
by a rating panel
