Together with NASA Glenn Research Center and several other cosponsors, the NASA History Office is pleased to announce a centennial of flight-related conference on November 5, 2003 in Cleveland, Ohio. This symposium will honor the Wright brothers’ invention and the contributions of scientists, engineers, daredevil pilots, bold entrepreneurs, military strategists, and creative administrators and managers who contributed to placing human flight among the most important technical achievements of the twentieth century.  Three panels will address “Dreamers and Doers,” “Barnstormers and Entrepreneurs,” and “Aviation Leaders and Managers.” We welcome managers, scholars, students, journalists, and all those who are interested in aeronautics and space history to register and attend. This free symposium is open to the public, but advance registration is strongly suggested due to limited space.  For more information and to register, please see http://history.nasa.gov/rdfconf/index.html on the Web.

We are also pleased to announce the availability of Concept to Reality:  Contributions of the NASA Langley Research center to U.S. Civil Aircraft of the 1990s (SP-2003-4529) by Joseph R. Chambers.  This substantial publication is a companion to the author’s Partners in Freedom (monograph 19) which covers Langley’s contributions to military aircraft.  Concept to Reality is Monograph in Aerospace History #29.  To request a copy of this monograph, please send a self-addressed 9×12″envelope for each monograph with appropriatepostage for 17 ounces (typically $3.95 within the U.S., $5.70 for Canada, and $12.15 for overseas.
