CLEVELAND – NASA’s Glenn Research Center will host an Industry Day for the Historically Underutilized Business Zone, or HUBZone, on June 19 at the Ohio Aerospace Institute, 22800 Cedar Point Road in Cleveland. The event is free and will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

HUBZONE Industry Day is an opportunity for companies to meet with decision-makers to learn more about doing business with NASA. Small businesses that are not certified HUBZone by the U.S. Small Business Administration, or SBA, may also register to attend.

Companies who register online by June 8 will have an opportunity to schedule one-on-one meetings with NASA’s small business specialists and Glenn’s prime contractors from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Attendees will hear welcoming remarks from Brook Park Mayor Mark Elliott; Jesse Gannon from the office of Sen. Sherrod Brown; Caryn Candisky from the office of Sen. Rob Portman and Marty Gelfand from the office of Congressman Dennis Kucinich.

In addition, NASA speakers will include Glenn Center Director Ray Lugo; Glenn Delgado, associate administrator of NASA’s Office of Small Business Programs in Washington; and Woodrow Whitlow, associate administrator for NASA’s Mission Support Directorate in Washington.

Representatives from the SBA, General Services Administration, Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC) and NASA will cover topics such as HUBZones, PTAC services, SBA Loan Programs and Surety Bonds, Federal Supply Schedules, government contracting, NASA’s Small Business Innovative Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs, Space Act Agreements and Glenn construction projects.

HUBZone was established to stimulate economic growth, increase employment and encourage investment within the HUBZone areas. Government agencies have been encouraged to increase the amount and value of contracts awarded to HUBZone companies. This event is sponsored by the NASA’s Glenn Research Center.

Journalists interested in attending should call Jeannette Owens at (216) 433-2990 or send an email to jeannette.p.owens@nasa.gov.
