CLEVELAND — NASA’s Glenn Research Center will begin monthly testing of its outdoor notification systems in July.

Siren testing will occur on the first Saturday of every month at noon starting on July 3. It will last approximately 2-3 minutes. Each month a different siren pattern or sound will be tested. The tests will coincide with the testing done in several of Glenn’s surrounding communities.

Voice notification testing will commence on Wednesday, July 7, at noon and occur monthly on the first Wednesday of each month.

“It is important the Glenn staff become familiar with the various warning signals and voice commands used in emergencies,” said Michael Bilinovich, chief of the Office of Protective Services at Glenn. “However, we know it is equally important to inform our neighbors that this testing will be starting soon and will be ongoing.”

While the warning system is meant to alert center employees and visitors of severe weather, workplace incidents and emergencies, the sound may also be audible in the neighborhoods surrounding the center.
