Two Florida-based businesses, NASA and Falcon Aerospace Inc., were among 18 industry partners honored Jan. 24 with Business Alliance Awards presented by the Defense Logistics Agency in Springfield, Va.

The awards recognize those who have demonstrated outstanding efforts to partner with DLA and improve the agency’s mission — providing supplies and services to America’s war fighters. DLA Director Navy Vice Admiral Keith W. Lippert presented the annual awards.

The agency’s primary role is to provide supplies and services to America’s military services worldwide and includes managing more than 4 million consumable items, including rations, medical supplies and equipment, clothing and textiles, and repair parts for land, sea and air weapons systems and platforms.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, represented by the Kennedy Space Center, was nominated by the Defense Energy Support Center for DLA Customer of the Year. This is awarded to the Department of Defense customer organization that exemplifies the highest degree of professionalism, meets or exceeds criteria in one or more other categories and clearly stands above the rest in its commitment to DLA.

NASA KSC has been a full partner with DLA in the Defense Energy Support Center acquisition of a 20-year hydrazine rocket fuel production contract worth well over $100 million.

“They have provided world-class expertise in acquisition, engineering and environmental management and have enthusiastically participated in and supported our source-selection activities,” the award citation stated. “They have applied their insight and experience to help prepare and execute the DESC acquisition strategy, working tirelessly through a lengthy and extremely technical proposal evaluation process. Their efforts have been of significant assistance to DESC.”

Falcon Aerospace, with headquarters in Davie, was nominated by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia for the Innovative Business Performer of the Year Award in the small disadvantaged business category. The award is presented to large, small and-or women-owned small businesses that have undertaken risks associated with innovative business practices (shared production, electronic commerce, prime vendor, quick response, etc.) and that meet the Vendor Excellence Award criteria.

Falcon Aerospace has successfully performed on several direct-vendor delivery acquisitions in direct support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

“This socially and economically disadvantaged business has met or exceeded all contract requirements,” the award citation stated. “It has provided superior products at reasonable prices with on-time delivery while maintaining the highest level of customer satisfaction.

“Falcon Aerospace’s support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom has shown innovation and creativity and demonstrates the important role a small disadvantaged business can play in support of our armed forces,” the citation added. “Falcon Aerospace is an effective supplier and valuable participant of our industrial base.”

DLA provides supply support, and technical and logistics services to the military services and to several civilian agencies. Headquartered at Fort Belvoir, the agency is the one source for nearly every consumable item, whether for combat readiness, emergency preparedness or day-to-day operations.
