The extent of intense winter storm that stuck much of the eastern

United States earlier this week can be seen in this image from

NASA’s Sea Viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor (SeaWiFS) onboard the

SeaStar satellite.  The image was captured Thursday, Jan. 27,

2000.

ITEM 4a – SOLVE SCIENTISTS WORKING IN SWEDEN————–TRT 6:36
The SOLVE mission is an international scientific and research

effort to study Arctic ozone. The field campaign is being

conducted in Kiruna, Sweden. Footage shows preparation at the

Arena Arctica hangar of NASA1s ER-2 (smaller) and DC-8 (larger)

specially equipped airplanes, taxi and takeoff.  Footage also

includes an arctic sunrise.

BREAST CANCER SCREENING AID CLEARED FOR DIAGNOSTIC USE
     The war against breast cancer has a new weapon, thanks to an

advanced sensor developed at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory

(JPL).  The device, called the BioScan System*, was developed by

OmniCorder Technologies, Inc., Stony Brook, NY, from NASA

technology originally thought to be useful for locating hot spots

during fires and observing volcanoes.
     Studies have determined that cancer cells exude nitric oxide.

This causes changes in blood flow in tissue surrounding cancer

that can be detected by the sensor, which is sensitive to

temperature changes of less than .027 degree Fahrenheit (.015

degree Celsius) and has a speed of over 200 frames per second.  It

causes no discomfort to the patient and uses no ionizing

radiation.
