NASA Commercialization Workshop Tops List of Pre-Conference Activities at ISCe

From learning how to
commercialize NASA technology to an inside look at the latest trends affecting
the satellite industry to networking opportunities with foreign companies, the
International Satellite and Communications exchange (ISCe) offers a full array
of pre-conference activities on Aug. 27 at the Long Beach Convention Center in
Long Beach, Calif.

NASA will make a special presentation on licensing its sensor and software
technology for commercial application. Entitled “Digital Data, Digital
Dollars,” this workshop will help U.S. space companies understand how to find
and license NASA’s most current available technologies in order to accelerate
bringing innovative technology-based products and services to market. This
event takes place from 9-11:30 a.m.

At the same time, the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) will present the GVF
Broadband Business Summit entitled “Satcom at the Crossroads.” This three-
hour program will feature GVF Secretary General David Hartshorn, who will
report on the latest trends affecting the satellite industry. Top executives
from Gilat, Globecomm, Hughes Network Systems, NSI Communications, SES-
Americom and Viasat will explore how, where, when and why satellite-industry
players can stake a profitable claim in the global telecommunications
marketplace. The Network Manager’s Panel will unveil what end users have to
say about the realities of deploying a satellite-based network. Finally,
Christopher Baugh, senior analyst with Northern Sky Research, will give a
detailed analysis of how broadband satellite solutions can be implemented
properly.

From noon to 2 p.m., conference exhibitors and attendees will get their
first of several opportunities to meet and network with U. S. and foreign
companies at the International Visitors Welcome Luncheon. Sponsored by the
California Space Authority (CSA), this luncheon will feature keynote speaker
Lon Hatamiya, secretary of commerce for the State of California. In addition,
the CSA will demonstrate why California is one of the world’s most attractive
places for space enterprise.
