NASA Brings the International Space Station Experience to Rose City

NASA is traveling to the Portland area June 20-23 to share opportunities for research that could lead to new accomplishments aboard the International Space Station.

Astronaut Don Pettit, an Oregon native, will share his perspective on space research opportunities and the special vantage point over Earth that the orbital laboratory provides. Station scientist Camille Alleyne also will participate in events alongside Center for the Advancement of Science in Space’s (CASIS) Director of Commercial Innovation Cynthia Bouthot.

From 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, Pettit and NASA representatives will visit the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry at 1945 SE Water Ave, Portland, to give presentations about life and the science aboard the space station. NASA’s “Driven to Explore” mobile exhibit also will be available to the public during this time frame.

From 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, representatives from NASA and CASIS will highlight the many commercial opportunities the space station provides for researchers and employees at Adidas at 5055 N Greeley Ave, Portland.

From 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 22, NASA and CASIS will be at the Nike Headquarters at 1 Bowerman Drive, Beaverton, OR to meet with Nike representatives and discuss opportunities for research aboard the International Space Station.

On Friday, June 23, the NASA and CASIS teams will split their time between Columbia Sportswear headquarters at 14375 NW Science Park Drive, Portland, from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. and FLIR Systems at 27700 SW Parkway Avenue, Wilsonville, OR, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
