NASA Bioastronautics Program Convenes Life Sciences Investigators

Research efforts to allow humans to travel safely in space and to use
the space environment as a laboratory to improve the quality of life on
Earth will be the focus of the largest-ever NASA-funded meeting of space
life sciences investigators. The Bioastronautics Investigators’ Workshop
at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston, Texas, Jan. 17 to 19 will
include sessions to inform the research community about NASA program
status and strategic plans. Session formats are designed to facilitate
cross-disciplinary discussions throughout the research community.

After those sessions in separate disciplines have been completed, the
entire workshop will convene on Jan. 19 to hear summaries for each of
the 12 sessions.

Dr. David R. Williams, NASA/Johnson Space Center’s director of Space and
Life Sciences, expects more than 260 research presentations to be given
in the 12 areas of physical, biological, and biomedical sciences and
engineering. Participants include NASA investigators, university and
research community investigators, and investigators funded by the
National Space Biomedical Research Institute, the NASA Centers of
Research and Training, and the Graduate Student Research Programs.
