Unisys Corp. announced today that NASA has awarded the company three government-wide IT acquisition contracts under its Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement, known as SEWP IV.

SEWP IV is an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity, – or ID/IQ – contract administered by NASA, under which any federal government agency or their authorized subcontractors can procure computer system technologies, services and solutions; high-end scientific and engineering capabilities; peripherals; and network equipment. Each of the NASA SEWP IV contract awards has a ceiling of $5.6 billion over its seven-year lifespan.

Unisys submitted bids and received awards for three of 11 SEWP categories – mass storage servers, database servers and high-end networking. This is the first time Unisys attempted to capture the server categories, although the company has held SEWP contracts since NASA instituted the vehicle in 1990. To date, Unisys has been awarded approximately $175 million in orders under its single SEWP III contract.

Several other companies also were awarded contracts in these SEWP categories. The government may order goods and services from any contract holder of one of these competitively awarded contracts or it may procure goods and services in a category by holding a mini-competition among some or all of the contract holders for the category.

“We are pleased that NASA – a Unisys customer of more than 30 years – has demonstrated confidence in our enterprise server, storage and networking expertise. Integration of those capabilities is becoming increasingly critical as government IT environments, like those in private enterprise, evolve toward a real-time infrastructure in which strategic business objectives and processes drive the dynamic allocation of IT resources,” said Greg Baroni, president, Unisys Federal Systems. “That allows government agencies to achieve the highest utilization of their computing assets and accomplish their public-service missions more efficiently and cost effectively,” he added.
